About Us

Serenity Kids Intergenerational Learning Center

Early childhood is a very special time in a young child’s life; they grow and develop rapidly, yet each at his/her own pace. Children at Serenity Kids are provided with daily opportunities in which they can actively learn about themselves and the world around them. We provide a unique experience by bringing generations together. At Serenity Kids, we bring the generations together to help children learn social/emotional skills that will prepare them for kindergarten and help the seniors with their overall mental health. Seniors and children will be able to interact on a daily basis through many different means (play, music, art, etc.).

Our goal is to help children become independent, curious learners

Through these daily interactions, children learn patience, acceptance, and social maturity; while seniors gain a stronger emotional, physical, and mental health. Interacting with older adults enables young children to develop communication skills, problem-solving abilities, social networks, positive attitudes toward aging, and a sense of purpose and community service. This leads to a future fighting against ageism. Our goal is to help children become independent, curious learners, who are socially and emotionally confident.

Through daily interaction with children, seniors gain a stronger emotional, physical and mental health. Seniors feel a connection to the world and in return, their activity levels increase. When seniors and children interact this helps to deter the effects of dementia and other cognitive impairments, leading to a better, and longer quality of life. Serenity Assisted Living & Memory Care serves seniors in assisted living communities.

Our program is Christian based

The general education methods we will use in our program will include theme-based hands-on experiences, a creative curriculum, and imaginative role play all while the children are learning through play and modeling. Our program will be Christian based therefore we will celebrate religious holidays, have daily prayer, and will include Bible Stories to our literature. Our program will have the opportunity to integrate with those needing assisted living care. With this experience, the children and adults together will be involved in activities that will include both gross motor and fine motor.

Our mission brings generations together

Our Grand Friends are able to volunteer in our preschool rooms and interact with the children during organized activities. Research shows that integrating different generations together has a positive effect on both age groups. Our mission brings generations together while fostering a strong social and emotional well-being within children and seniors. Seniors and preschool-age children share in daily activities to create a unique bond that will last a lifetime.

Our Child Care Program Plan (on file in the Director’s Office) explains our curriculum and educational philosophy in more detail, and can be reviewed at your request.

Parents Conference

Parents of toddlers will receive daily updates reports about the child’s food intake, elimination, sleeping patterns and general behavior via Brightwheel. Formal parent-teacher conferences will be held twice a year (fall and spring). Conferences are an opportunity for parents and teachers to share information with you about your child’s intellectual, physical, social and emotional development. Since you, as parents, know your child best, your input will be needed in setting individual goals for your child that we can work on together.

A written summary of your child’s developmental progress will also be available to you and placed as documentation in your child’s file at the time of conferences. In addition to regularly scheduled conferences, you may request a parent-teacher conference with your child’s teacher at any time to address specific concerns.

Before and throughout the toilet training process,
parents or staff may want to hold a short conference to share input about the progress being made and to set new goals. Serenity Kids maintains information about programs and services from other agencies to support families. Please let us know if you would like more information on different resources.

Parents are provided written reports twice yearly during parent conferences, including reports on their child’s intellectual, physical, social, and emotional developments. Classrooms have been trained on the use of assessments.
